The Achievements of
The 11th Diplomatic Congress.

Over the course of this year, the Congress undertook an ambitious agenda: reconstituting its purpose and forging a new structure to match. All of this was in an effort to ensure that student advocacy is a core component of the overall shared governance system of Franklin & Marshall College. In this endeavor, we have made meaningful strides and earned recognition throughout the College, and most notably from the visiting Middle States Evaluation team—a rarity for a student government at any institution.

An Overhaul—From Stem to Stern.

Mission.
Critical.

As the central student government of Franklin & Marshall College, the Diplomatic Congress unites student leaders from all facets of the community with the common purpose of promoting a diverse and engaging campus culture and improving all aspects of the student experience.

To this end, Congress is tasked with the following: coordinating student participation in the shared governance of the college, overseeing the activities of— and facilitating collaboration between—various student governing bodies, primary funding and oversight of campus-wide events and student activities, and advocacy on behalf of the student body on all critical matters facing the college.

A New Mission For A New Era.

Student Governance has long been a key part of campus life at Franklin & Marshall—it is deeply embedded in our culture. Over the decades, the structure of student participation in the governance has taken many shapes and forms. The Congress's new mission is the next iteration of this evolution. It ensures better representation for an increasingly diverse student body and more effective participation in the shared governance of the college at all levels.

And So Much More....

Beyond foundational restructuring, the 11th Congress spearheaded numerous initiatives that directly enhanced the student experience and campus life.

  • Secured Dedicated Student Activity Fee

A landmark achievement ensuring sustainable funding for student initiatives and parity with peer institutions.

  • Implemented Student-Led Budget Hearings

Increased transparency and student involvement in financial decisions, empowering advocacy for resource allocation.

  • Enhanced Inter-Organizational Collaboration

Fostered stronger partnerships between various student governing bodies, leading to more unified advocacy.

  • Streamlined Event Funding Processes

Simplified access to resources for student clubs and organizations, promoting a vibrant campus events calendar.

In Closing,

The work of the 11th Congress has set the stage for an exciting future of student governance at Franklin & Marshall. Securing a dedicated Student Activity Fee, and the implementation of student-led budget hearings are both landmark.
